Asia Pacific Immersion Project
Philippines & Taiwan
July 6 to August 9, 2010
In the summer months of July and August 2010, 36 Sisters of Social Service from Canada, the United States, Slovakia, Mexico, Hungary, Romania, and Cuba travelled to the Philippines and to Taiwan to experience first hand the different cultures that are part of our communal composition and ministry.
Goals for the Project:
- To immerse a number of Sisters of Social Service in the cultures found in Taiwan and the Philippines in order to better understand the world in which they live. To share our mutual wisdom.
- To explore and discover how we can respond to these populations and cultures with our SSS Charism in order to understand, reverence and affect the lives of poor women and children in this part of the world.
- To provide the opportunity for inter-faith dialogue between the Sisters of Social Service and the other faiths.
- To do theological reflection and to deepen our knowledge of God’s Spirit in these faiths and cultures.
- To engage women and children through various programs/workshops in order to increase their self-esteem and assist them in developing their role in society.
- To witness to peaceful intercultural collaboration among women from different language groups, nations and cultures.
